Happy feet
Namaste.
I was on a weekend meditation retreat, and the teacher started with a conversation about grounding. Connecting with the element earth can help you find your way into meditation more easily.
There are many different techniques for grounding yourself:
Feeling contact with the ground
Getting mentally rooted
Getting out into nature
Walking barefoot
Running or walking
Cooking
Taking a foot bath
Foods with a sweet taste, e.g. carrots, pumpkin, potatoes, celery root, etc.
Music with earthy beats, with lots of drumming, with didgeridoos
Yoga exercises such as the tree pose, mountain pose, savasana
Everyone may prefer a different exercise to ground themselves. Still, one point applies to all of us: We ALL need more grounding in today's very head-heavy and media-intensive times!
What is grounding?
The term grounding is derived from earth. That's why the concept of grounding can be explained very well with metaphors and images from this area. Here are a few examples: A grounded person has their feet firmly on the ground. Who is deeply rooted in safe ground like a tree. Who feels supported by the earth, the foundation for everything we build.
In keeping with this topic, today I would like to introduce you to the point Kidney 1 (Bubbling Spring). This is a point along the kidney meridian. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), a meridian refers to a channel that runs through the entire body. Accordingly, life energy flows in the meridians. The acupuncture points, such as K 1, are located along the meridians, which can influence the Qi.
When I do the exercises shown in the video, I get the feeling that the excess energy can flow from my head into the earth. I feel more relaxed and grounded.
Try massaging K 1 before your next meditation, before Savasana, or just before falling asleep to enjoy a deep and restful sleep.
Sending love and light,
Silke
